No Luck - July 2006

I was pretty excited about visiting Grafham, but when I got there I found it to be a let down. I think that this was because the water level was too high, but as it was during a heat wave in July when one would have thought that the levels would be low, I was dissapointed. Only a couple of bits of Gryphea were found and they were pretty poor. Lucky I had my Oxford Clay book on me, which listed a place called Warboys near by. This is a Landfill site and was much more productive.
I'm guessing there must be a pretty small window when Grafham Water is good for collecting, so I'd suggest that if you're travelling any distance to check it out, that you ring them first to see where the water level is at. Joe Shimmin
